Assessment: Is Your Website Sending You Prospects?

Does your website persuade visitors to call or give you their contact information? Any of several strategies can encourage prospective customers to do so.

Do visitors stay and explore your site or leave immediately?

Your website must connect with viewers from the moment they see your home page. (See also: Three Tips for a Powerful and Effective Home Page.) Many factors affect your site’s “bounce rate” — such as:

  • Are you using the right keyword phrases to attract your ideal clients?
  • Does your home page have a clear “you can expect these results” message?
  • Does your site have a simple page design or is it visually confusing?

Does your language connect with viewers or talk “at” them?

Many websites talk about their benefits and features in dull, technical language that visitors either don’t understand or don’t recognize as relevant to their needs. Make sure to use “you” and “yours” as well as language a teenager can understand.

Does every page have a call to action?

Have you made it clear what viewers can do next, and tell them to do it?

Is it easy to contact you?

Do you have your phone number and/or email address — or links to that information — on every page? Do you give out free information in exchange for contact information?
